Fantasy vs. Imagination

Imagination is what can get us moving in the direction we want our New Beginning to take. But we must be careful to distinguish between foolish fantasy and do-able imagination.

Do you cross that line? Do you think there IS a line?

I keep such a tight rein on my imagination -- only considering those things I think are doable -- that I need to travel into fantasy land in order to grow/receive new ideas. To find dreams and recognize what I really want.

For me it's important to spend time with fantasies. But, you're right Marti, it's crucial to know the difference between what it takes to make a dream a reality. Completion is tough, but it brings such rewards.

Marti that is a very good question.
Yes there is a line and it may be different for each one of us.
The key thing is that we don't know where that line is until we go ahead and test it (maybe repeatedly, maybe with different tools maybe with different maturity levels).

This is not only in personal space but also essentially also how science works.
The common consensus says this and that.
It takes someone with vision or courage to successfully challenge that consensus and move the line.

Of course for every successful challenge there may be hundreds that fail.
Failure proves nothing but success does.

I have an online friend that has been focused on writing, but recently has begun to do collage and other types of art work she's never tried before, just for something different. In a discussion about failure, she came up with "A failure a day means success is on it's way" :) I think failure does prove that one is at least moving beyond the dreaming stage and taking action ...

Well, that sounds right, Barb. I find that it's hard for me to continue with something if I don't know how to do it well the first time. Logically that's a pretty stupid way to select one's activities. I'm working on allowing myself time to practice before I decide that I can't do something.

Yes, it's easy to fall into the "instant gratification" trap. The desire is only the first step in a long line of steps to being great ... no matter how magical it appears from the outside, there is a lot of practice and a lot of doing involved in becoming skilled at anything.
