Giving Back to Your Community

My neighbor just came by to pick up my donation to the Food Bank and I started thinking, what do others do to give back to their community? A man in the neighborhood started the One Can a Week program last January and it is rousing success. This is an urban neighborhood where many people are on fixed incomes or college students or other younger folks who are just starting out.
This program actually got mentioned in an article in the New York Times a few months ago. It was about how volunteerism is still alive in some areas.
In this season of giving, shouldn't every season be one, what do you do to give back to your community?

In the past I have done volunteer work for the Crisis Line and the Angel Tree program.

I have also spent time with Adults with Intelectual Disabilities, on my own time, when I use to work for a not-for-profit organization.

I have tried to call the Salvation Army this year to see about the Angel Tree again but so far all I have gotten was a busy signal or a machine message. I'll try again tommorrow!

I donate to every food drive and volunteer with our local 26.2 with Donna Breast Cancer Marathon and with Special Olympics. I also occasionally volunteer with events that the city is putting on. I also donate a lot of used goods to the Salvation Army and give cash donations to assorted charity that I believe in.
