Journey to the great unknown

Hi everyone. I hope you are all doing a great as I am. Im in day 4 of my diet/ exercise program. So far I'm doing well. I did however have to up my calorie intake from 1200 to 1400 daily. I was feeling light headed on 1200, so my doctor suggested I add a few hundred. After doing that I feel much better.
Everyday that I wake up and commit myself to this diet I feel like I'm entering uncharted territory. Well I suppose I am. I've never in my life counted calories or had an exercise plan. I just ate what I wanted with no thought to weither it was healthy or not and most of the time it wasnt. It's a lot easier than I thought.
The day before I began, I was scared to death about only eating 1200 calories. I thought for sure I was going to be starving. To my suprise I wasn't. Even tho those wern't enough calories for my body, they were plenty for my stomache. I never felt hungry. The trick is to slow down when you eat, take smaller bites, or count to 20 between bites. This has helped me a lot.
I learn something new everyday.. I make it a point to visit weightloss sites every morning. I want to play an active part in my diet. I don't allow myself to get so comfortable that I go into auto pilot mode, i'll have a better chance for success.
I found a really great site for low calorie recipes. This site has some groovy recipes. Check it out if www.allrecipes.com . In the search bar, on the page, just put in 'low calorie' and it'll pop up a list for you. The thing I like most about this site is that it lets you copy recipes without having to copy the entire page. And it also lists the calorie count for every recipe.(The only meats I eat are ground turkey, chicken breast, and baked salmon.)

I choose to not use the word diet...it just sounds bad to me...I prefer to say new way to eat...and I dont "loose" weight...that would make my body think I want to find it again. I release the weight and send it out into the universe...I have been battleing my weight all my life. I am a big girl anyway(large frame and muscular) so I will never be slim...I really dont think I look good lke that. Right now, I would be pleased if I were to release about 100 lbs. That would still leave me about 65 shy of what the charts say I should weigh...but right now I would be so happy I think I would do a dance...lol...

Good luck to you on your journey!

Have you tried eating breaking your calories down into 4-6 small meals a day. That might help with any physical discomfort that you feel because it will keep your blood sugar stable. Best of luck to you.

kdfn.. that's a great way to think about it lol. i sure dont want my body looking for the weight i've 'lost' ;))
laraine.. i eat my 3 meals a day plus 2 snacks.. with that i'm not really having a problem durring the day.. my problem comes at night. i'm so used to snacking at night when i watch tv that im having a hard time getting my body to realize it cant do it anymore ...

Cheryl..I'm that way too. I could absolutely go without food in the morning so I save my usual morning snack for that time. That helps a little. What's helping me more is that I just started to use the time to either walk on the treadmill or to spring clean one of my rooms. For me it's usually not actual hunger. It's really stress, boredom, emotional eating, fill in the blank. Best of luck to everyone. I've spent the last twso weeks plateauing.

I just read your blog and you have done some awesome homework. If my comment didnt come through I wanted to know if brain exercise counted.
I too dont like the word diet...I prefer to have a happy healthy lifestyle. I think one shoule not curtail any food but to try for a good balance with not an excess of intake.
I also find that talking with someone helps..this is why I started this weekly update thing.
Good luck with your quest.
