Witches Balls

One of things I collect.
Why? Not only are they made out of beautiful glass they are one thing most people do not know what they are I have bought them for 25 cents to 5.dollars.at yard sales and estate sale.(just for the record I have taught dealer to be dealer and a lot of dealer do not know what they are either}.
Well you will.
Salt was a very valuable commodity . It was kept in a very beautiful blown glass ball with a small opening at the top. It would sit on the hearth.over the fire place to keep it dry and be accessible for the pot and they believed in Victorian days that salt warded off witches and illness and evil spirits..Thus the name of Witches Balls.

Look for blown glass, It will have bubbles and there will be a pontil mark { thats where the glass blower took it off}. Always a small opening at the top. They ranged from 3 inches to 15 inches in diameter. .They were made out of all colors from cobalt blue to amethyst, clear.and so forth.
Value ranges from a 100 to 3000.00 . Condition is very important as it is in any glass. item. No chips cracks or breaks.
