Now it has to go to the Senate, we'll see how much it changes there. Many who voted for it know that it's not perfect, and say that it will or should be changed in the Senate before it gets voted on there.

True it is not perfect, but I think it is a step in the right direction. It sure is better than nothing.

The real story here is 220-215, 5 votes, hardly a resounding endorsement of a major revision of 1/5 of the economy when the party in power has an over 50 vote majority in the House.

Now it is the Senate's turn to deal with growing part of the American economy, possibly a malignant growing part, and in what and how the legislation proposes on to make the reform work much less pay for it. Politics and progress, and another Saturday night vote, maybe.

So was the Saturday night sleep in progress or political cover?

Both and none, mostly politics, and some progress or at worse the illusion of progress, in the debate of what can be done, if it should be done and how to pay for it.

And by Christmas? Bah, humbug...

Amusing math! The new health bill is estimated to cost $1.2Tril to provide coverage for 36Mil people. That comes out to be 3.3Mil per person. Talk about the high cost of medical coverage. I'm glad the president said there will be no cuts to Medicare. However, when they eliminate my Medicare Advantage it will cost me over $200 per mo for medigap coverage (another windfall to the insurance companies)! I’m sure that the government will offer tax cuts to help with the extra costs (I don't make enough to pay taxes, so what help will that be to me)? The one thing I don’t understand is does the 36Mil uninsured people include the 20Mil illegals? If so then the total insured US citizens would be only 16Mil. If it doesn’t, that would mean that there are 56Mil uninsured. Since the government doesn’t know where these illegals are how will they collect fees from those that don’t sign up? Will the FBI be the government agency to go after those people who fail to sign up, or will we create the Health Insurance Compliance Agency? It would definitely create new jobs. They could offer rewards to people who rat-out their neighbors…

I've heard that the bill that was passed proposes huge cuts to Medicare--this is frightening to me. How do the rest of you feel about that?? If you're not there now--someday you will be.
