TONE INFLICTION

I have noticed that sometimes when we post, pm, email etc. When we are typing a message we have a certain tone infiction in our head that does not always show what we or how we are thinking. We may type something in humor, but it could be taken out of context.

How do we make things in type - come accross the way our brain is really thinking? Add a smiley face? You do not always know what you said (with good intentions) may be taken opposite of what you were thinking when you sent it.

Just don't tell my mom Liberace was gay... she's ninety now, no sense busting her bubble on one of her and step dad's favorites when he was alive.

My Mom is 92 now. She told me when I was a teen that Liberace was "gayer than a french horn" - I thought she meant that he was just musically happy.

Wouldn't it be great if we lived in a world where we could just dislike a person as an individual, and not be told we're racist, sexist, ageist, etc. Sort of an equal opportunity of dislike...LOL

Very interesting discussion here. I do agree with most that has been said here. I do think we have many things in common in that we live in WI (except a couple of people who used to live here). I do think that at this stage in our life we have the "earned" right to agree or disagree with others, but not to do it blantantly. If anyone could tell me what LOL means, I would appreciate it. I thought it meant "laugh out loud", but something that Mike posted made me think different.

LOL is used a lot in the photograhy groups I'm in, and I don't want to sound "dumb" to them. I trust all you "guys" to not think I'm dumb!

By the way "you guys" could be another discussion, but I'll let it go for now.
