TONE INFLICTION

I have noticed that sometimes when we post, pm, email etc. When we are typing a message we have a certain tone infiction in our head that does not always show what we or how we are thinking. We may type something in humor, but it could be taken out of context.

How do we make things in type - come accross the way our brain is really thinking? Add a smiley face? You do not always know what you said (with good intentions) may be taken opposite of what you were thinking when you sent it.

Is there something wrong with this reasoning, or is it just me?

In this type of meeting I don't get offended. I pretty much know who is going to come down where when we ddiscuss politics. But we have so much in common. I look on this group like I do my friends and family. I just love and care about them even if they are odd, opinionated, only talk about one topic, etc. They are people I'm comfortable with, sane here. Much like friends and relatives we share history...we have a commonality in being more or less the same age, grew up in similar circumstances, many of us here, know how to pronounce Manitowoc, spell Pewaukee, remember the OM weinermobile etc. In my adult life of frequent moves those shared experiences are special even if we could pass on the street and not know each other.

And, as I've often said (many times while discussing politics with my many Cuban friends) -- one of the greatest things about our country is that we can have civil discussions and disagreements about politics and don't have to fear the government if we so happen to voice a view contrary to that held by those in power.

I do know a number of intolerant people, some on the left and some on the right, but for the most part, political discussions with persons holding opposing viewpoints are the only constructive political discussions to have, otherwise all we do is agree with each other and pat each other on the back. That's no way to get anything done, in politics or business.

This group shies away from political discussions, for the most part, and I applaud that effort. For a while it seemed taboo to even skirt a political issue, but we've crossed that line several times since then and we still seem to be able to get along with each other.

Maybe it IS because of our shared history, maybe that's just a part of it. Either way, let me say this....

Wisconsin people are the best!
