A more funerary story.. a real classic,
can be found, along with many others, in Lucian's "Funerary Dialogues".
A favorite is "Diogenes and Charon (Death)".
Diogenes was the famous cynical philosopher of antiquity, who owned little or no property and lived in a barrel.
When he died, according to custom, there should be a coin placed on his mouth, for Death to be paid to transport him to the Netherworld in a sort of ferryboat. However, due to his penury, no coin was placed, and Death was not amused.
An argument ensues between Diogenes and Death, and finally Death threatens him that he will not transport him to the underworld.
"I could care less if you transport me, Charon", Diogenes replies, "But I could care far, far less if you don't!"
