Good evening but before I go..

THE TREE

I saw this tree today
Sort of looked just like an old man
It's long gnarled arms reached heavenward
Its old feet stood tottering in the sand

It was broken and bent from years and years
Of working as shelter and shade
Now the fronds are all gone
Like a bald old man
Its trunk all brittle and decayed

I watched as the old tree just leaned there
Slouched in shameful disgrace
No longer the majestic and strong Maple
That had once stood proud in its place

I walked over for a closer look
At this ancient and withered old tree
To my surprise, it had not died
Two tiny green leaves peeked back at me

They were trying to say "Don't look away
Just because I'm now twisted and frayed
Please try to remember that because of me
Something always had shelter and shade!"

I walked from the old tree filled with wonder
Inspired by the message it had sent
That all things still have merit and worth
Even after they're broken and bent
