The Nerve of AARP

I thought a law was adopted making it a crime to send those automated telephone calls. Yesterday I got one of those calls from AARP. Not only did I not solicit the call but it also frosted me that AARP is playing politics. They said that THEY were supporting the adoption of the current healthcare proposal and asked me to call my representatives to tell them to support it, too. I think as an insurance company they should worry more about selling insurance than lobbying a political cause. It's no wonder thousands have dropped them over the healthcare issue, I'm doing the same!

The fact of the matter is that the AARP is the new ACORN - they have a "social justice" CEO and ae in the bag for Obama. They really don't care about the members because very little of their money comes from dues - I assume they feel their income will increase with the need for more supplemental insurance under the health care reform plan.

Hey No1, if you are an AARP member then they can call you at will, unless you tell them otherwise, which it seems you are about to do :^)

I had to join AARP to get a substantial discount in my car insurance, it was only $12.50 a year and the savings were many times greater, but after the first year and after I saw their policies and politics, I dumped them. I can't add up how much $ they wasted sending me mailings with offers to re-join. Some were really pathetic, offering little gifts like a pedometer or a cheap calc-clock, the sort of things you get for free in Job fairs..by recruiters.

We have CANCELLED our membership They are not for the "average" Almost retired, semi-retired or retired people.........they prefer to cater to the CELEBRITIES.......enough of them..........
as far as saving on car insurance we can take deffensive driver course and get a 10% discount on everything except comprehension and uninsured/underinsured risks. Their "so called gifts" are laughable junk! There are really no benefits at all being a member......oh yeah the monthly magazine reading about celebrities and the rich! UGH!

Uhhhh, AARP IS a political group which purports to represent, and lobbies on behalf of seniors. They lobby the congressional leadership on matters pertaining to senior issues, medical being a biggie. I think they picked the wrong side of the issue this time and as such, I too have cancelled my membership. They don't speak for me and I would guess that their membership count has dropped significantly since they chose to align themselves with the powers that be, ignoring the needs of the majority of seniors on this issue. If they call us at all, it should be to ASK our opinion on these matters, and not attempt to INFLUENCE our opinion on such a controversial issue. When they chose to INDOCTRINATE instead of REPRESENT us, they stepped on their proverbial lizard, IMHO.

Wow! Not only are all of you so in the dark that it would take three nuclear plants to generate sufficient light for you to read the daily paper, but you are all to the right of Attila the Hun, as the cliche runs.

Most of you right wingers hate the AARP for being so progressive. Let me tell you, if you ever participated in their on-line forums, you should know that most of the members are doddering, poorly educated folks who could not write a grammatical sentence if the hang man were on their tails.

Neutral? Oh, little ones, there is nothing more dangerous than being neutral. Wrong side of the issue? If any of you understood the issue, you would resent all the years you have been raped and robbed by the insurance industry!
