BLM trail 11-6-09

Look in the reply for a slideshow. We started at the same parking lot as for the Smoke Jumpers trail, but went in the opposite direction, to the north toward town. We're lucky to have this big patch of federal property wilderness jutting from the mountains and Fort Richardson into the Anchorage area, the Far North Bicentennial Park. Here's a link to an Anchorage map: view link
The mountains are on the east side in Chugach National Forest.

We walked a loop of trails for 4-1/2 miles. Temperature--30 degrees at 11 a.m.

You have so much space out there! It's truly amazing!

Love the dog team warning sign. It does look chilly. When winter arrives, will there still be trails free of snow where you can hike or will it be snowshoes until spring?

Some trails will be plowed, and some will be trampled down, so yes, I'll be able to hike most of the winter. The Tuesday group mostly skis, but some walk the same route instead. I haven't used snowshoes on trails, only playing around back in the woods where there are no trails--well, except for on the short trail to our cabin.

It's hard to imagine ice on the lakes and streams. Thanks for sharing.
