It's an F-4C Phantom at Da Nang-the pods are fuel tanks-1969! It was known for chasing down HooDoo's, among other things, was also called the "Flying Brick", very affectionately, by the pilots!

a friend of mine in the pentagon flew f4s

he died of brain cancer around 2001
so the CCR song was about chasing down hoodoos in nam
wow ... wonder what john forgerty thinks about that
my bother was a chopper pilot in nam
he has all kinds of metals
says it was the best time he ever had
i really could not process that too well in the 1960's
after working for DOD for 30 years .. i get it
and I'm proud of him and you for your service
