Leadership.....

This is a question for all the veterans here and also everyone else.....

For the veterans and any active that may be here:

Of the current/last 12 Presidents, who would you follow into battle without question and why?

Some may wonder at the question, but those who have been in harms way (wartime or peacetime) will understand this question.....

For those who wonder.....if one is in harms way (wartime or peacetime) one depends on leadership from those in charge, or if one is in charge then must display leadership.....

Leadership is not perfect, but must be present or the battle is over. Period.

Now those here with a military background may well have different views and that is certainly acceptable.....each of us will vigorously defend each other's right to agree or disagree.....we swore that.....

So the question here is.....do we have true leadership from the WH now? If not, why not? And what needs to happen to attain true leadership, if it does not currently exist?

And for those who have not served in the active/reserve/guard then do NOT hesitate to contribute; rather contribute, ask questions, ask the hard why questions.....that is how we grow.....

Let's get real, it will be highly suggesive to say the least.....I do not mean it so; I want to have a discussion on leadership, not politics specifically.....

Hell I was afraid of my Chief Master Sargent....That guy used to chew up Lts for breakfast and Capts for dinner.

Charles was a lot of fun -- if he liked you. Good thing he liked me.

TS: I think that is the definition of an E-8 or E-9.

MacAurthur was awarded the Medal Of Honor in WWI. He smelled the smoke.

E-9 he was promoted to E-10 at my recommendation. He retired about a year later.

I would select General and President Dwight Eisenhower. After him I would pick JFK. Maybe Bush Sr. would be 3rd. and then Truman. Carter was an officer in the submarine corps and so he might be a good choice too.

There is a reason, however, that the Commander In Chief is a civilian. The founding fathers wanted to avoid a military dictatorship. There are very experienced military people serving under the CoC that can give him advice. Whatever they do or say it should never be a kneejerk reaction to an event or to start wars that are predicated on lies. This only happened once before. The Spanish American war was predicated on a lie but that was not found out to be a lie until decades later and even now it isn't positively the fact that a lie was told. At the time many may well have thought the Spanish had blown up an American ship. No doubt, however, the more recent lie was a lie and those telling it were well aware it was a lie. They committed thousands of lives and billions of dollars (out of the budget) that nearly bankrupt the country. In all other wars taxes were raised and in many bonds were sold to AMERICANS to help pay for the wars. The most recent that is not so. That is the primary reason our economy is a mess right now.

Eagles, you are right that we have elected civilian authority in charge of the military, and as to the reasons.....

I will not here discuss the economy, that is a subject that must be discussed but this may not be the right thread for that.....

I love the responses thus far, spread the word, let's get input from as many as we can.....
