Who makes up the world?

Think about this for a moment...How much of the world overall do you believe consists of fairly intelligent individuals, transcending race, religion, socioeconomic status, etc., or "educated fools" (loose translation - a person who has extensive formal education; 4 years of college and perhaps a Masters degree or higher, but often lacks common sense)?

I know that amongst such a large group as this one, the defintiion of how intelligent one is varies, but I thought I'd put the question out here for discussion.

BTW, I don't think there's anyone amongst us who hasn't encountered at least one "educated fool" in his or her lifetime, either!

Glam, you know my feeling on this one. Only I've encountered more than one 'educated fool' in my lifetime. The smartest man I ever met was a homeless derelict living in a cardboard box. He taught me something that no teacher, professor or school of higher learning ever taught me.
He taught me what it felt like to be homeless and living in a cardboard box.

I have no idea what the percentage is. But I do keep running into people that spent a lot of years getting a lot of papers with a lot of initials that seem to know nothing beyond their particular training. I tried to strike up a conversation with a highly respected doctor once and it seemed as if the only thing he had ever read was "How to connect the heart to the aorta".
Ladywrite reminded me of the old days when I use to hang out at bars. There were some homeless guys that would come in and order a pitcher of beer and nurse it forever, just to stay out of the cold as long as possible. At first I just wrote them off. But over time I began having conversations with a couple of them, and they were well read and their conversations were well thought out and knowledgeable.

I think everyone makes up the world and we all count and really we are all one....what we do not only affects others but affects the planet.....and probably the universe too

It's easy to think the world is overrun with "intellectual fools" or those striving to join their ranks, but I'd estimate the percentage of rational, caring individuals to be in the area of 90 to 95 per cent. Most of us toil anonymously satisfied in the knowledge that we make a difference in the lives of those close to us. If that carries over to everyone with whom we come in contact.....so much the better. The richest among us are those who seek the least.

Well, my two cents worth. We do live in the "information age" where there is a multitude of information, data and "fact" all of which may or may not be totally accurate or tainted to promote one's position. I've seen people throw "facts and data" at particular arguments so much so, that they fail to see the forest for the trees. My late father used to always say to me, "No one is better or worse than you". I also know the old saying "throw enough BS against the wall and some of it has to stick".
If I ask someone for some expert advice, then I am all ears. However, if someone offers me expert advice or information that I haven't asked about, then I am very leary. I like the old saying "Jack of All Trades, but Master of None".

College degrees have nothing to do with inborn Intelligence....I have known may an expert mechanic who had no degree or formal education, but could tune a car really fine!!
Many a Saint hasn't even been to school...let alone a college,

Degrees and common sense are 2 different things..Degrees are for the subject you study from written books....common sense is for the subjects you face in your practical life..

The world is made up of everyone and everybody...In nature good, bad co-exist.One doesn't have value without the other...if there were fools what would be the result? ...lol

Learn from nature and learn to live with all, together in harmony...

Experience is the best tacher...true...that doesn't mean we scrap Universities...

In my experience I've been foolish many times. And I'll probably be foolish again.

Einstein, the genius, could not do math. After 12 years of post BA/BS training, a doctor recreate a burned human face. Well know in the substance abuse community, a person who has hit bottom in a really hard way has the ability to connect with those individuals seeking sobriety. I have a ftiend whose husband is a carpenter. He makes the most extraordinary furniture.

I believe everyone has the potential to be an expert in something. If people would join together and do for each other what each knows best, what a wonderful world this would be.
