I can't understand why they didn't see this coming in that man. Such a senseless act wiping out innocent people. God rest their souls and hope their families find the strength to withstand their unrepairable loss. My prayers are with them.
I'm proud for the heroes we still have that acted quickly to avoid a worse disaster and stopped this maniac from killing more of our soldiers.

Why he was under watch by the FBI for six months due to a post on the web, and still allowed to remain in his position at Ft. Hood, was going to be detailed to the Middle East, will require a lot of explaining in the months ahead.
I raise the same question as Zochitl: Why didn't someone see this coming? He had not received stellar reviews in his job, prior to be assigned to Ft. Hood. He was prosyltizing for Islam. Was vocal about not wanting to go to Iran or Afghanistan [conflicting reports still about which country he was to be sent to].
We have to recognize that there are 9 million Muslims in this country and figures are that 87% are peaceful people by their religious beliefs. But 13% are sharia law fundamentalists whose beliefs in harsh punishment, that those who are not followers of Islam are infidels to be exterminated, believe in jihad -- holy war against the infidels.
In our nation that believes in freedom of religion this presents a conundrum. How do we embrace Muslims who are peaceful and weed out those who present a clear and present danger to us, all of us. Outside a mosque in NY while worshippers inside are listening to messages and praying for peace, outside on the street regularly stands a radical muslim preaching jihad against the United States and its people. Oh he is being watched constantly by the FBI who say he goes to the very edge of free speech.
We have potential terrorists in our midst, and have had all along. We need to rethink our "war on terrorism" and how to deal with people like this doctor -- before more lives are lost.
Because, God forbid, the PC cops bend over backwards so as not to face a discrimination charge that things like this happen. We are shackled by PC and it has made neurotics of us all.
I'll bet this would not have happened in Israel.
Yes PC is a bitch…However, would you prefer that the sob got off because of some dumb political ethicality, remark made???
There was bending over backward in this instance probably because of past proselytizing by and favoritism shown to Christians that ended up in an investigative report that was made public a few years ago. Had the events not taken place that prompted the investigation and resulted in some officers being disciplined, it would have made it much easier to zero in on any extremist behavior. This guy had some obvious mental health issues that should have been addressed, no matter what religion he was.
20.20 hindsight is always very clear. Columbine, Virginia Tech and other tragedies were always preventable, but alas...
No one seems to be able to put together the full picture until after the body count ends...
More is the pity.

FW is right - all the independant occurances with this event seem so obvious now because we've connected all the dots as part of the body count.
