Yup...we discovered that the first year we lived here in 2005, we're from Maine as well Bangor area.
What we have always done was picked up firewood on the side of the road, people put it out for trash collection which comes once a week.
Now that I'm alone (widowed), that is not so much an option - I'm okay, but not great on splitting wood. You can usually find ads in the paper - I'm sure not all of them are legit, I guess you just have to ask the right questions.
I live on a heavily wooded lot. Granted most of it is pine but some is good hard wood to burn. I would keep some of the ceder to put one log on for the scent. I would cut down as needed years ago but don't do it any more. I am not really a fan of using the fire place but the ex was so I showed her how to split the wood :^)) I do keep some wood available to in case of power loss.

Thinking seriously of getting a pellet stove. Had one in my house in Maine. Does anyone burn pellets here? Haven't checked the price of pellets. I just got back from Maine the other day after a visit and pellets there were $265/ton. This house has electric heat, so any other option will be an improvement!
what exactly are pellets ?? used to know some folks that burned corn... not sure what the cost was, though
They are pellets made from compressed wood. Look kinda like rabbit pellets only brown! Some pellet stoves burn either wood pellets or corn. The one I had in Maine only burned wood pellets. Looked and smelled just like a wood stove when burning.
