Hi there, very interesting background. I am glad everyone made you welcome and its great that you found us. Not everyone is from Britain. Some do live there and some were born there but moved. Some just like the country or the culture so we are a mixed bunch. We all have the same thing in common though we enjoy talking about all things British. I did not appreciate the country until I left and although I do not believe in regrets (its a waste of energy) I am not always sure I would have made the same choice had I known what I now know. There is just so much to do there, so many things to talk about and so I hope you will join in and have fun with us. Feel free to bring up things you would like to talk about and post pictures of places you enjoy.

Hello Bill, welcome to our lovely community here on the internet. I have to say, we are an interesting lot with lots of different subjects to talk about, so please post some more.
In 1066 a fellow from France (Normandy) came to your shores. A small battle was fought at Hastings, as I recall. His name was William, as is mine. Much is made of this, but the people from the continent had been back & forth for years. My name may be derived from a Brit name, Berenger - or maybe other way around. I have some records that trace my family in France to early 1500's. Is there a geneologist in the group? My name is BRINGIER. My family came from France to what is now Louisiana in 1780.
Oh yes, I love geneology.
Now in defence of Harold, when said William came over to our shores and snuck in the back door so to speak. Harold was off in the north fighting. Won that battle and then had to traipse his very tired army all the way down to Hastings. It was pure luck he got shot with the arrow. I think he might have won otherwise. Alas its now history and I do not think enough credit is given to that long ago monarch who did his best and died defending his country.
So then William built castles all over the place. Very nice ones too. Apparently he came to a very ingloriouse end (I read a post in my archeology group) ......very yuck.
