venison

my son is convinced he is going to shot a deer... anyone have ideas on cooking it? i don't cook meat much so a bit worried. if he doesn't get one he'll probably swipe some from his dads freezer...

Depends where he gets the deer... Lower half is corn & soy beans for them...so just fix like you would any beef....

I roast, fried, made chili from the ground up meat....used the pressure cooker and make stews, or roast with potatoes carrots & onions as a roast dinner...we call it pressure cooker dinner...soups...

The up north ones are a bit tougher and alittle bit stronger tasteing due to the foilage they eat...I usually marinate over night.

I have fixed venison many times, for people that say they don't like it or that it tastes strong.. and they always go back for seconds..don't tell them till they are done eating....

Since hubby is retired I hope he will go hunting this year, but I am not counting on it....maybe we will get some from a friend or two.... I like a good jerky also.....

Sorry I can't really give you any recipies, as I am more of a throw together cook...

Venison, unlike beef, gets tough when overcooked. One good way to cook the steaks and loins is to use shake n bake and bake in oven according to directions. I'll post our favorite recipe later. I have to leave for work. Also, another factor is to take it into someone experienced in processing venison. If the membrane of the meat isn't removed, it tastes "wild". Strong tasting venison is either spoiled or wasn't processed correctly.

Can't help you Vicki, never cooked it but I sure do handle all those deer claims at the office, why don't they learn to cross the road.

I also do not know how to cook venison nor do I eat it, but I am sure ChatCat will have a great recipe for you later today, because she just sounds like she knows what she is doing.

oh good ideas - thanks

i am encouraging my son to cook it - he likes to cook so this would be his chance... we do like it. i have always been with hunters so i go with the flow...

it is a healthy meat. although once my ex went to a cheap processor and i made this fabulous tomato sauce form scratch and added the hamburger and it was very fatty - totally destroyed my sauce...

mums i am a throw together kinda cook as well... and yet sometimes i could use some actual plan

thanks all and hey were are the men in this post!
