I understand the need to withdraw to make a personal assessment. I'd like to do a couple of months of quality time in a monastery someplace -- observing contemplative silence for part of the day, then getting a chance to talk about really important stuff with like-minded people.
Can't do that, so I'm reduced to doing the best I can.
Welcome back.
Don't feel bad. Time to reflect is important. I am just getting back to something similar to normal after a horrendous summer-into-fall & it'll be a while before things are even close to settle for me. But I'm just starting to get a little time to think now. It's precious time to have.
Wurdguy, if you find that monastery, let me know where it is. I'll book a vacation!
Monastic living, I don't know if I could take the quiet or absence of a computer access, radio, and TV. Also they might not want me when my snoring, bi-pap machine and breeze box fan (to make white noise to counter act the traffic noise) and other accutrements that I think I have to have. I guess I will have to stick with meditation. I have a deep admiration for someone that can withdraw to recharge self and re-establish values and goals.
Welcome back antiquemother2.
Actually, it's easy to totally change your lifestyle if you are in a place that you enjoy being. Forgotten are the computers, TV's, phones, and who needs white noise when they are away from the noises of traffic and busy cities. It's all in your attitude. :-)
There's a place up the road about an hour away. Mepkin Abbey is said to be quie beautiful as well as peaceful. Guess I should take a tour. And then decide if I could give up tv, cell phone, computor, etc. Naw, no way. I'd be "bonkers" for sure! LOL!!
