We walked on the pier at Flagler Beach when we first visited the area in 2004. We haven't been back.
I come from New Jersey where it costs money to use the beaches in most oceanside towns from June to Sept. So the cost to use the pier doesn't really annoy me.
I live a couple of minutes from Lake Erie. We have little piers. We also have ferries, the jet express to the islands and Canada and 4 large water parks. Not as nice as the east coast, that's for sure. I miss the ocean, the smell of salt air and the seafood. Here we have walleye. Don't ask...
Yes, I would pay (if it wasn't extreme) to be able to stand on a pier or walk along the shoreline. I can't think of anything I'd like more right now.
You do have a nice pier at Flagler beach.
The only piers in Colorado are used to support a building foundation.
We have a new pier at Jax Beach. There is a charge to walk on it or fish off of it so I haven't been on it yet. I prefer to walk the shoreline free of charge.

We have a small pier in Vero Beach.....used mostly for fishing. Cocoa Beach has a nice pier with two restaurants and a tiki hut bar at the end.
I can't believe you have to pay to walk or fish on a pier!
I have a fondness for piers, getting out over the water. A good place to sit at sunset, to fish from and "NO!" I would not pay to go out on the pier at Flagler or any other beach.
The Santa Monica Pier is one of my favorites as well as a couple in California -- Monterey, a fantastic one with its great aquarium at the end.. A bit of imagination and soul would do Florida well.
No pier here, I fear! ~
We do however, have a boat dock on a canal leading into our lake!
