Spank the Yanks

I just hate the fact the New York Yankees bought themselves anaother MLB championship. I turned the game off last night with it was 7-3.

Yaaaaaaay, Yankees! My home town team did it again. Check the stats, the batting averages. It's hard being the best. Love my Bronx Bombers.

If you can totally ignore salary caps then why do they have them? "Bought themselves another championship" is EXACTLY RIGHT! I think that MLB should REQUIRE teams to follow the rules. If you do not follow the salary cap, we're not going to fine you. You will simply be inelegable for ANY post-season games untill you comply with the rules. It's obvious that the Yankees GLADLY pay whatever fines they have placed on them. THIS idea, however, just might be exactly what the game needs to level the playing field...

The playing field has been pretty level for the last 10 years, look at the teams who made it to the WS over the past decade.

No complaints when the Yankees lost to two of the lowest paid teams in the majors though, the Diamondbacks and the Marlins. No mention of salary cap fines when they didn't even make it to the Series seven of the last nine years. The highest paid Yankees didn't contribute much to the Series wins this year, Mark Tiexeria, Alex Rodreguez had a terrible series and Mark Utley lit up Sabathia like a Roman candle.

Baseball is no different than any other sport. The size of the market, past history, the press and the fans are a few of the factors that dictate how much players make and demand it from team owners. But the biggest reason there is a luxury tax (salary cap) in Baseball is the players union won’t allow it, as it does in other pro sports as well. I think team owners and investors would love a strictly enforced cap. It’s not just the Yankees that pay the luxury tax, in 2009 The Boston Red Sox, the L.A. Angles and the Detroit Tigers also had to pay the luxury tax.
