A terrorist is as a terrorist does, and Hasan is a terrorist in the true sense of the word. He gunned down unarmed Americans to prevent them from serving in the Mideast. He followed the typical path of adopting radical views, praising suicide bombers as heros, then deciding to commit a suicide mission of his own. A person doesn't have to belong to an Al Qaeda cell to be a terrorist. The Unabomber and DC sniper didn't belong to any cells but they committed terrorist acts.
There will be some psychobabble to excuse his actions, but it is irrelevant. One could argue that anyone who dons an explosive vest and walks into a market to kill innocent people is insane, but where is the line between fanaticism and insanity? He knew his actions were wrong under our laws, and under his oath as a doctor and his oath as a military officer. He's not some poor kid brainwashed from childhood by fanatics. He's a well educated and trained person who made a choice to kill. I'm sure he's being praised as a hero by many around the world.
Oldmike.....this individual was in fact a terrorist, no question, but all evidence that has thus far been presented says that he is sick.....
There is NO, repeat, NO evidence that has been presented publically that says that he is part of some greater conspiracy.....
As for my earlier statements, you are right to call me on them, but not beyond that.....and I do not believe you went beyond that.....
To this point in time, given the available information, I believe I was correct.....
Personally, I believe he should become very familiar with "Old Sparky".....but injection is the method nowadays.....
I still think you're jumping to conclusions, maybe conclusions well-founded, however. I think we agree with your conclusions, but maybe not the result or the basis. Conjecture is fun.
Whether or not he is a member of a 'terrorist cell' or not - the fact remains that he murdered 13 people in a premeditated shooting spree. He was caught 'redhanded' - nothing can be done to keep him from some sort of punishment. Loony bin for the rest of his miserable life? Life in prison? Death (by bacon preferred). Unfortunately he lived. Unfortunate for us - we will have to support him 'til he dies. Unfortunate for him - no 72 virgins in paradise for this guy...
I believe the firing squad is still the death penalty method within the military.
You bring up an interesting point BeachGhost, since he is a military officer and the slaughter happened on a military post, will he be subject to military or civilian courts? If anyone knows enough to answer that question, please post it. I am sure he would prefer a civilian court with civilian investigators, I don't think he will be coddled by the military authorities (unless the commander in chief orders it).

The Liar in Chief has been playing down this terrorist act since it happened, I wouldn't be surprised if he interfered with with military justice to save a fellow muslim
He killed many people in cold ( service men) ......Forget where he was and who he was . I personally do not really care why he did what he did at this time. His finger prints are on the gun. He should be tried for murder pure and simple. All else is perifery at this point. The point is ....he is clearly a murderer. It is of no consequece in a trial of pure murder if he was a Muselum , a Christian , a Jew or whoever. Worry about "the why " later.
Now...asap.... Worry if our defence systems are infilltrated etc etc etc etc. Let the departments of whatever try to secure whatever for our immediate future. IMOP Political correctness has gone too far. It lead to this! I don't care if there is a camera in my bathroom. I have nothing to hide. I'd rather you catch a thief at the expense of my personnal privacy. In the long run...The thief can then be caught and I will be safer for it. My books are open..I have nothing to hide. Times have changed and with it comes invasion of privacy. Oh well!
mejk, Fox News reported that he will be tried in a military court, not a civilian criminal court. Let's hope he gets death by firing squad, BeachGhost, and that it's carried out swiftly.
Sonjia - your second paragraph kind of contradicts your first, in my opinion -- we have to care why and who so we can make sure our defense system (military) hasn't been infiltrated. It is of great consequence whether he is a Muslim, etc and whether that had anything at all to do with the murders. I do agree with you that he needs to be prosecuted for murder, but at the same time we need to be concerned about why he did this and who, if anyone, he was affiliated with.
I, too, would pee in a bathroom with cameras if that's what it takes to be safe! Or walk down public streets with cameras or drive on public roads, etc. I don't see the connection with the shooting, but I agree with you nonetheless!
