A hands on experience with a Head Job

well I got the heads off my truck motor and took them to my friend who builds racing motors....to be on the safe side I am having both of them shaved....I had mention to him that if at all possible I would like to watch how it was done....he say's better than that I can let you do you own head job .....I did a couple of practice turns on some warp heads that he had and then preceded going through the motions of turning down the heads it really was a hands on experience....and I felt completely satisfied with the job when I was done....needless to say I also felt quite relieved ......so now I have both my heads to take back to the garage tomorrow and start the long precess of putting everything back together..plus flush the engine and add all new oil and fluids

Sounds interesting. Glad you got to do your own. Has to feel good. It will feel really good when you put it all together and hear it purrrrrrrr.

Easy a hands on Head job and it was a good experience,,,, gee it almost sounds like I am talking to CG.. Hope you have your truck back soon and it runs like new.

I'll bet a LOT of people did not think this post was going to be about valve seats, seals, spring seat pressures, and valve guides -- Hope it runs when you are finished -- Were the heads cast iron or aluminum?

Note to self: You can twist, shave, and turn heads until they're a new size/shape/finish and a guy will still consider it a satisfying experience.

used to work in a machine shop. was taught how to do that stuff, guess they thought i was gonna stay there. lasted a year, won my law suit and moved on.

I used to help my dad work on cars and yes I have helped pull heads - of course that was over twenty years ago ----- I just depend on my brother-in-law now to help. :-)
