AN OPEN LETTER TO ROSA DELAURO ON HEALTH CARE
Dear Ms. DeLauro:
Since my wife and I are very concerned about the onrushing National Health Care Reform legislation now hurtling through congress, we have tried unsuccessfully to speak or meet with you. No doubt you're hard to reach while tucked safely in your bunker somewhere in the high nountains and caves in central Connecticut. to avoid exposing yourself to the maniacal right wing terrorists now opposing this peoples bill.
But we figured that your "tele-townhall" at 7PM tonight would be safe enough. Jack Bauer and Chloe O'Brien aren't back yet and no one else could trace your untraceable satellite phone. WOW, sounds High Tech! We had made arrangements to be in on the call at 7PM, but alas, 7PM came and went. NO CALL!
Could it be that you really don't want to discuss this pre Thanksgiving turkey?
For your info nonetheless, as well as that of the good folks in the 3rd district, I'll review the questions and thoughts that we were going to ask you. My wife who was a teacher for 33 years retired early and took less pension payout in order to retire with her health plan. In short, we made life decisions in good faith on it's continuation. Now it's in jeopardy.
We were told in an email from your office, that we'd be able to keep our present plan under the Obama plan but the Baucus farce says that it can continue but only with an added 40% tax placed on it. Now the supplier (BC/BS), the town and we can't afford the increase, and the plan will disappear. Kinda makes President Obama's and your pledge that we would keep our coverage look a lot like a thinly veiled lie doesn;t it? If not what would you call it?
We had a "Cadillac", we were told. Well, I immediately checked my driveway and my old pick-up truck was still a Chevy.
So what DO you have to say? Why no open Townhall meetings, Ms DeLauro? Why are you hiding in your bunker? Don't you want to face your constituents? What happens to our health plan with the crushing penalties you're placing on it? Is misrepresenting it this way a LIE? Why didn't you respond to the substantive questions I posed to you via email? The best I got was a rehash of Democrat talking points, sent to me by one of your staffers. My wife got more of the same in phone calls to your offices. What happens to us seniors with the anticipated $400-500 billion in Medicare cuts? Eighty-five percent of US CITIZENS are satisfied with their health plans. Why do you have to punish them to solve a problem for the other 15 percent, most of whom are young and healthy. And I don't want to pay for illegals either, who are likely to come next. I have to admit, however, that it is a wonderful idea for Democrats, as an economical way of buying votes.
I'd really like to know the answers to these questions. Whenever you're able to safely get out of your bunker, that is.
