Did you hear FDR prolonged the Great Depression?

Conservative talking points -- designed to stop Congress from passing an economic stimulus package -- was breathtaking.

If you're like me, you sometimes find yourself speechless when confronted with abject insanity.

If you're like me, for instance, you were dumbfounded when "Forrest Gump" beat out "Pulp Fiction" for best picture; when HBO's "Sopranos" received more accolades than "The Wire"; and when George W. Bush insisted Iraqi airplanes were about to drop WMD on American cities.

So if you're like me, you probably understand why I was momentarily tongue-tied after running face-first into conservatives' newest (and most ridiculous) talking point: the one designed to stop Congress from passing any economic stimulus package.

Actually, Ron Paul who I think knows economics, said during the first round of bail-outs that if the government did nothing, the economy would probably straighten out sooner than if the government gave all kinds of money. It would be bloodier, but quicker.

I don't think the economists know what the heck they are talking about. Greenspan, after years and years of saying NO REGULATION was the way to go is now saying there was a flaw in his thinking. Ya think?????????????????????

This is all mystery territory for me, so out I gooooooooooooooo.

I read a lot stupid stuff being touted by the right-wing loons...I don't know where they get this stuff. Other times, I just wonder what planet they came from.

There is a wiki out there for teabaggers, I want to find it.

For every economist who said the stimulus wouldn't work; there were five saying it would. Out of those five, two were saying it wasn't enough.

I've really stopped paying attention to this brand of conservatives. They have De-legitimized any credibility they once had. Debating them is an exercise in silly-ism. This administration and congress should really stop trying to woo them just for the sake of bipartisanship. Just let it go and move on.

I took Macro-economics in college back in 1983, when Reagan was POTUS. The text-book was the latest thing espoused by university professors and I still have it. But back then, the business class taught you to look at the moving trend for the next five years, not the next quarter.

It was assumed that people who were employed would be pumping tax dollars into the system. It was assumed that people who were employed could be consumers. The old idea that Henry Ford had about 'building a car his workers could afford to buy' was still in force. You shopped at the company that employed your neighbor in some fashion. The rising tide was lifting all boats.

Isn't it funny how much ideas change in 25 years? Congress voted down domestic content laws. Regulations were eased on most business dealings. Huge tax incentives were given to foreign manufacturers to build plants that they moved out of when the taxes came due. The people they used to employ took lower paying jobs. US companies started moving offshore in droves to take advantage of slave wages in other countries. The people they used to employ took lower paying jobs.

Now there are no lower paying jobs to take. Someone commented that if they lost their job, they would wash dishes to pay the bills. My question is where and how are you going to convince the boss to fire the dish washer they already have?

" Rush Limbaugh responds to a New York Times climate change reporter who said that population increase is a big contributor to climate change, saying that he should just go ahead and kill himself then...to help the planet."

I guess if you disagree with some people, your death would go along way in appeasing them.~Smile~
