It's so cool to see them up close. My son use to live in Keokuk, IA. The eagles flock there in the winter due to the dam. They use to have a house close to the river, one morning I was standing at the kitchen sink and an eagle was in the next door neighbor's tree, probably 20 ft from where I was standing, that was pretty cool.
They tell me that the nest they built is pretty neat to see too.
Somebody told me where one nest is and after the leaves are all finish I am going on the hunt of it!!
I haven't seen Bald Eagles very close and I am sure it was a wonderful thing to behold, and with a baby. I love bird watching.....When I did live in Clayton, IN on 20 acres we had a Blue Herron quite often come to our pond.....it was also a great sight to behold closer. good post
I personally think that Ben Franklin was right and our national bird should have been the wild turkey. It is elusive and diffacult to hunt. The eagle is a vulture. I agree that it is pretty to watch but as a symbol I think that we could have done better.
Not sure about the turkey, he's not so elusive around here. Went to Madison a few weeks ago, twice one flew over my car and I saw 2 flocks of them along side the road in full daylight.
