One stated problem and one possible solution is the part of the original thought. I'll answer that because it is a given that no generation thinks any other generation knows as much as them.
Problem: Paper waste.
Solution: Remember what great hopes about ecology we had when the computers came out? I say, save paper and school costs big time. A computer per student allows the teacher to set specialized lessons and tests. Each class gets their own CD. Nothing stays on the computer. Even the teacher could use the computer for teaching and study material.
(Yes, teachers today are taught computer science; but only for grade book entries and computation and research for other subjects!)
Good idea, LadyTurtle. Another thing we can each do to save trees is to think about what we are doing when we reach for a paper towel. In my humble opinion, those should be reserved for things that won't come out in the wash. Using washable cloth for most cleaning tasks saves a lot of trees. And so does using cloth napkins.
Issue: Idealism
Solution: Idealism tempered with realism
At 12-21 we were all idealistic though that did change a bit.....I remember walking out over the Mei Li issue so that would solve the issue of the military beaucracy.....and realizing later when I was in the USAF in Europe that there was a reason for it.....
BTW, I spent 4 years USAF, 11 years USN, 7 years CA Army National Guard.....so I may have a unique perspective.....
I saw our responses to Islamic terrorists.....the weakness of Carter.....later my ship (USS Saratoga, CV-60) took the Achiele Lauro hijackers (1985-1986 cruise) and so the resolve of America.....
Now, allow me to relate experience under Captains of the Saratoga I served under.....Captain Perry, grandson of the Admiral that opened Japan.....nice but very soft.....Captain Ready.....took us from "building 60 from Dixie" as we were called in the shipyard to being the Super Sara.....held down a 2 Carrier spot by ourselves.....and Captain Unruh - a TRUE leader.....under him we wrote a PERFECT score from the GITMO team.....only done perviously by the USS Eisenhower CVN-69, never by any other carrier.....had he said we were going to pull anchor, sail to Hell itself and whip the Devil's butt, we would only have asked....When do we leave?
THAT is leadership.....
I have seen the response to terrorism since.....and the leadership involved.....
In my experience.....we currently have no leadership.....
Solve: Put a leader in place.
Interesting that there is no response here.....is there that much of a lack of confidence in this so-called leader in the WH?
No hershman, it is being tired of arguing due to recent troll infestation.
AND...you're entitled to your opinion...i disagree...but i've got better things to do than argue with you as i don't believe either of us is changing their opinion anytime soon. i don't mind 'spending' time/energy but i hate wasting either.
I offer 2 solutions regarding vistiting the doctor's office.
1) Problem: How many times have we taken time off from work or whatever, gone to the doctor's office for a scheduled office visit, only to have to sit there and wait and wait, sometimes for an hour or more.
Solution: How about Doctor's offices give patients a buzzer or pager, like they do at restaurants, so people can possibly go grab a bite, do some shopping or another errand, or do something productive while they wait for the doctor to be available.
2) Problem: Filling out redundant medical forms. Each time you go to a doctor for the first time, and in some cases every time, or after having not been to the doctor for a while, you are given this clipboard with forms to fill out, pretty much asking for all the same information.
Solution: Why not bring an electronic device with all your medical information readily available. Maybe the medical community could standardize the forms in regards to the information they need. All the patient would need to do is give the USB Flash Drive, CD or 3 1/2 floppy disk to the receptionist who could print it out and all the patient would have to do is sign the form.
The above suggestions are not earth-shattering ideas, but if you are like me, going to the doctor is stressful enough without having to go through the extra aggravation of waiting and waitng and filling out redunctant forms.
Both great creative ideas, Greg and entirely possible to implement with our technology.
