what does 100 million buy you

i did not see to much difference or real excitement in yesterdays elections. in maine the gay marriage went down
ans medical marijuana pased( voted againt it after i read all those articles about cailfornia.
what i did find amazing was the mauorial race in Nw York City. Mayor Blomberg afer spending 100 million dollars of his own money won by a mere 51 thousand votes. I think many peol got fed up withhimtrying to buy this election. He has a hugh approval rating so there really is no reason why he did not just campaign wihout tossing all that money around. I guess he thinks he will get a good return on his investment as mayor?

Its one of those moments ehere I am in a philosophucal bind. I am for campaign reform with strong opinions. within that I have held the belief that anyone running ought to be able to spend their own money they earned it. Let them spend it . After this I am reconsidering my position.

Look at the 100 million as the media time it purchased as well as the individuals who were employed during that time.

What is special in the US, more than in other countries, is that individuals are able to make money in the private sector (vs working in government and putting one's family, friends and supporters on the payroll - e.g. Chicago, D.C., or Kofi Anan)and then spend it as they wish.

If most of us cannot even fanthom spending 100 million, we need to be careful about class warfare that the current Administration and party in power is encouraging. Encouraging while many of them are rich but keep their money while spending more and more of the 50% of the population that pays taxes.

the only consequence i see of having the \ability to pay your own campaign is that the peole who can afford to run will only be the megarich. would you disagree?
