Do You Pray?

I don't. I really don't know how except to say church prayers. I did pray when David was in the hospital. Do you think praying help us? I feel a need to connect.

Sometimes it is too difficult to think of what to say, but I often find is easier to sing hymns that are appropriate to the situation, using someone else;s words for a prayer.

Also, if you have seen The Secret, I have adapted the "Thank you for my healing" that the woman repeated constantly to "Thank you for my husband's healing." Then I found a way to sing it, since saying it with joy is part of the idea, and singing is more joyful than just repeating (even if you only sing in your head). The main benefit I find from this is that it keeps me from getting stuck on repetitive negative thoughts, which tend to crop up frequently.

AzSunflower --- Prayer always helps me! As to how to pray or what to say I think that God is a silent partner in my life and I talk to Him as a friend. Prayers are answered in His time! Time is an invention of mankind because there is no reason for God to keep time as He is infinite in time.
Prayers work also, my wife Beverly is proof of that. We were told that there was no hope that she would survive and recommended that we take her off of the life support system. When the staff turned off the machine she started breathing on her own! All this happened 13 years ago.
Take heart and talk with God.

I think that many people think that prayer has to be something done on the knees when you are in trouble...and I spent some of my life believing that too but one day, I realized that you can pray and be grateful for the good in your life everyday...even when there are hard times.

And you can ask for help and maybe it comes in the way you need it or maybe it comes in a way that works out better for you. My prayers are not always answered but sometimes, just articulating your needs aloud makes you understand that a lot of our lives - especially as a caregiver, is totally out of our control.

If for nothing else, my prayers during the hard times brought that fact home. When I was at my wits end with desperation - prayer help me articulate my mortal limits. I believe that someone is listening and my faith would carry me through.

I have found it hard to pray since Albie died but I also know it is OK right now...I am not unfaithful - I am just waiting until I heal from this loss. Did that help??

Prayers are always answered. Just, sometimes, the answer is 'No'. But prayer helps. There have even been research studies done, with the results that the patients who were prayed for had a better recuperation /survival rate than those who weren't prayed for.
And prayer can be silent, in the head, out loud, sung, anything. Prayer can just be a conversation to God.
It does help though.
