Yep, Halloween the start of the holiday season. Gotta get your stuff here before someone else gets it. This is why we give home made stuff. It takes all year to knit, quilt, crochet, saw, nail, bake, can etc.
Lowe's had some Xmas stuff up two weeks before Halloween. Pretty soon Lowe's will be stringing the Xmas lights on the grills in July. If you consider when the decorations are in the stores, it's no wonder we're sick of them long before Xmas; the time between Xmas 'seasons' is only about 9 months now.
The Xmas craft fairs are already in full-swing around here too. I went to one last weekend, and got to listen to Xmas music. Yikes. There are about five more this weekend too. Why so early? These things used to be the first two weekends in December, a time when they seem more appropriate. Sure spoils the fun by the time December rolls around. :(
Yup, the Xmas stuff comes out earlier every year. Kind of burns me out.
as for shopping, I hate getting gifts. I always groan when I get them. At my age, I get what I want when I need something and I need less and less with every passing year. I beg and plead with family and friends to stop all ready, do they listen, NO. I enjoy everything about Christmas but can't stand the whole gift thing-- it taints my joy. I give my teenage grandchildren money cause I haven't got a clue what they like and even if they told me I wouldn't know whatha-heck they were talkin about. I tell my children not to give me anything and I don't give them anything because they already have everything too. I can't stand the obligation thing either and most of it turns out to be just a waste of money.
Oklahoma was the Sooner State because some folks Jumped the gun to get the best pickings....
Now the whole country are Sooners jumping the gun to pick the most pockets....
I pretty much ignore all the whoop de do til around 12 December then put on a happy face, toss my pocket change in the bell ringers pot, wish everyone well and generally enjoy the mood of the season....
Speaking as a free thinker, I enjoy all the holidays, religion based or not....
You don't have to be a drunk to have fun at a party, If we celebrated Tet here I'd be dancing around in a dragon suit burning incense and flying kites......
So There........
There are soooo many craft fairs around here (at least one per church, one for each school, one for each fraternal organization), that there may be 25 per weekend after the first part of November. The last time I did a craft show, the people would say, Boy you have nice stuff and reasonable, too. I have 5-10 more craft shows to hit and then I'll be back. Of course that didn't happen and almost noone made enough money to pay for the table rental. Now, I'm seeing cancellation notices for shows on church signs. There's not so many crafters in this area willing to lose their shirts.
I also noticed that Lowe's has set up their Christmas stuff already, and in this area, they have an extra aisle more stuff this year than last year. If they keep expanding the Christmas junk, pretty soon you'll have to go out into the patio area to get a screwdriver.

Halloween is over folkes.. Walgrens started early... I just choked literally..................
I'm with you Brew; I like the holidays and I don't care that they are commercial. I love going to the mall (that I only go to two or three time per year since it's nearly 50 miles away) and just walking around. I especially love it when they have a 'midnight sale' where they close at 8:00pm and re-open at 9:00pm and stay open until midnight. They always have great sales and you can browse around without listening to whining kids, and dodging strollers.
And, I love the craft fairs; don't know why since I rarely buy anything....well, if they have pies I do.
The atheists are too busy making money. They own all the stores.
