Richard Russo's Bridge of Sighs

I picked this book up for an airplane trip, but got distracted by the movies and it sat for months before I finally opened it. It's an epic novel about love that's not a whit romantic - told from the perspective of a man in his 60s. It's just great. Anybody read it?

Not yet, but recently read THAT OLD CAPE MAGIC by Russo and thoroughly enjoyed it. Didn't BRIDGE OF SIGHS win a Pulitzer?

Well, I didn't read that one, but, like rapa, I read That Old Cape Magic by Russo and while raps enjoyed it, I thought it was a complete waste of time. Variety, the spice of life, eh? :)

I have never read his novels. Empire Falls is the one that won the Pulitzer...written in 2001... Maybe I'll give it a try.

Loved Empire Falls.

Just took out Bridge of Sighs from the library a few days ago.

I was disappointed in Old Cape Magic. I loved his mother but he was a very unsympathetic character. At least the b---- said what she was feeling.
I liked Empire Falls and will try Bridge because I like his writing well enough.

My favorite Russo is Nobody's Fool. And Paul Newman played the main character quite sympathetically in a movie in the 90s.

I did read this book and enjoyed it very much. It's one of those you really remember. I
guess I really got into the characters.
