It is true that 40,000 or even 150,000 additional troops will not secure"victory" in Afghanistan....which will soon escalate to include Pakistan and possibly Iran.
our military, as it stands now, is stretched way to thin. the only way to sustain troop levels needed will be to institute the draft again.

If we are to re-institute the draft, there should be no loop holes at all. No matter how rich your daddy is or how smart you are, no college deferment, nothing. No loop holes.

I agree red, you graduate high school...then you are in the military.
If you drop out, you're in the military as soon as you turn 18....infantry automatically with no diploma.

Yeah, Two, I was just thinking about Switzerland. The far, far right (neo-cons, whatever) like to put down Switzerland, but I was watching a show on it the other night, and if we do have a WW3 and Armageddon, they will probably be the only ones to survive. They have mandatory service for everyone, male or female. And the show revealed just a little tiny portion of their defenses. Amazing.

I think that a MUCH SMALLER military , achieved through the draft , is an excellent idea .Having a professional army distances that force from the people and makes it more possible for our power-mad leaders to use them against us .

Absolutley. If the children of the rich and powerful were fighting, these wars would cease to exist.
In Israel, they have the right idea. Everyone must serve in some capacity instead of staying dry and safe in the storm, going to college, moving their lives forward without a care in the world.
