Active & inactive members

Just a little note to everyone -
You may have noticed the group membership number shrinking; it's because I'm doing a little administrative housecleaning. If you've visited in the past six months or so, nothing to worry about! But we would love for you to drop by more often, visit, maybe even post a photo or two waving, girl

This is the original photography group on Eons, & I'd like to thank all of you who continue to participate & keep it all going! If you have any concerns or suggestions on ways to make the group better, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me anytime.

I used to manage a group and sometimes it's no picnic...I used to sent new members welcome to the group gift. I will do my best and stay active to keep things going

I have been looking things over here and I hate to say it but it might just be a lost cause. There are 755 members and no one says anything. Why join if you never participate and if you don't like the group please quit. That is how I feel about things.

Like Sylk said,
This is the original Photo, group here on eons, it has treeded out to many groups that have special interest, this group is special to many because of its history, and the library of post that go back to 2006, there are over 1200 post, here is a oldie,

I enjoy going back and reading the early history, I haven't been here in a while, but this winter when we get home bound I'll be back and plan on enjoying this group more..

Honest John--I loved to read your flashback to 2006--these are so interesting--I hope I'm able to look at photographs back that far--I guess I should be able to.

Sylk--

I want to commend you for your efforts in this photo group, and also for the work you do in the Photo Challenges group. I have been posting pictures since the Fall of 2008. You perhaps, will remember me from the Photo Challenges group.

I am sorry, but I did not know that this was the "first" photography group on Eons. I will certainly post photos here now. I have not posted very many photos anywhere, because I've had a rather "rough" last three months.

Perhaps you can give my some answers so that I can understand the philosophy of this photography group more. Would you like people to post any kind of photo. Do you exclude pictures of people? I did not see any of this type of information on the opening page.

Secondly, if someone could tell me how to do a "view link", as HonestJohn did in this same post, I would be most appreciative.

Thirdly, I thought that Eons was suppose to be for adults age 50 and up, and HonestJohn's post from 2006 also mentions that. Yet, many who post pictures in other groups are age 38, or even younger. Can someone please explain, if the age limit of Eons has changed, or how are younger people able to be a part of Eons?

I don't necessarily want younger people prohibited from posting. However, all the photography skills that I have are mainly from my own experience. Many of the younger people who post, may have had photography in school(s). I'm just thinking that their skills may be better due to more education in photography. However, I am confident enough that pictures that I post are of a quality worthy of showing to others, so I will continue to post. I just want more clarification on the Eons policy on age limits, etc.

Thank you for your concern and help.

Thanks, Eduk8er60, but I never feel that I can do *enough,* know what I mean? But I also realize that people can't be forced to participate here, & a lot of groups have the same problem. I almost gave this group up for dead once, & in all honesty most people would never notice. I don't worry about it anymore, though -- there are a lot of photo groups on Eons, so there's lots of competition. I myself use my camera every week & take tons of pictures, but don't want to treat any of my groups as a "personal gallery" so to speak :-) I might post on Eons maybe 1% of the pictures I actually take.

Ok, to answer your questions ~
This has always been & remains a general photography group, so please feel free to post any type of photos as often as you like (as long as it's within the Eons TOU, of course). There are already plenty of niche groups for those who like to specialize.

To post a "view link" in a thread, this is all you have to do:
1. Copy the URL address from the page you want to link to.
2. Go to your Eons message & type the following -
Type The Title of the Link Here Take care not to add any extra spaces or punctuation, or it won't work.
3. Always preview your message before posting - better safe than sorry!

Eons changed their age policy a long time ago, & technically admits members from age 13 up. A lot of people got mad & left when they did that, but it was all for nothing because - guess what? - teenagers don't want to hang out on a site for us "old fogies" - LOL! So while you'll see folks younger than 50, it's not a big deal; they're just people like you & me, & there aren't very many of them. I don't think any more of the younger members have had formal education in photography compared to the rest of us "older" members. From what I've seen in the numerous photo groups, people just enjoy using their cameras, taking pictures, & posting them for others to admire. Some of them really like the technical aspects of it, others don't. If a few members learn something along the way, that's a plus. In my attempts to post tutorials in the three photo groups I manage, it seemed to cause confusion & there was little feedback so I quit doing it. It was disappointing to me, but oh well. Now I try to glean tips, advice, & knowledge from posts just for myself in the various groups. Or if I have a specific question I simply ask; someone will always respond. But usually I prefer doing my own research, since I've seen some pretty misguided & even bogus answers.

I hope I was able to give you the info you needed. If not, holler at me again :-)

Sylk--

Thanks for your answers. I also goggled my question about age on Eons, and came up with some old messges from about Jan. of 2008.

I am amazed and thankful that you are managing three groups and doing it so well. Take care--I really would like to see your pictures more!

I browse when my old computer lets me...between that and the site responding slowly it is frustrating. This has always been a slow responding site for me. I take far to many photos to post online :O)

There is an alternative method of getting your URL posted.
Simply do a 'cut-and-paste' on the URL. (Highlight the address, hold down the Ctrl key while keying C (aka Ctrl-C) then position where you want it to appear in your post and do a Ctrl-V.)
This procedure will also get your URL into the post. The "View Link" result is generated internally.

Sylk's suggestion to preview the message before posting is always a good idea. While you're displaying the 'edit' version of your post (by clicking on the 'Edit' icon in the preview), you see how your original URL has been embellished in order for it to appear in your post as a 'hot link' (something you click on to go to a different page). Notice, too, that you can now see the words "view link" within that string of stuff that was your original URL.

If you desire, you can carefully edit the words 'view link' into anything you want.
For instance, I could post "The Eons Photography site is here. I just changed the words "view link" to "here" (without the quotes). That's all there is to it. Here, again, the advice to preview is important.

Sylk:

in the past two years since discovering EONS and this wonderful group I've only had time to post sporadically. However my passion for photography has been constant. So with a renewed vigor I'll do my best to post more, comment profusely and enjoy endlessly !

Keep in mind not all of my photos are Blue Ribbon winners but then I'm not Ansel Adams either.
