I dislike generalizations as a rule, but this one in particular. There is an ongoing effort, perpetuated by the likes of Baisden and emblemized by movies, such as 'Mean Girls', that women are in some cutthroat competition. It just is not true. Women are very much girlfriend oriented. We are there for our girlfriends. Good news or bad news, we rush to tell our girlfriends. Our friendships span a lifetime. Waiting to Exhale and Girlfriends celebrate this kinship.
If anything, it is guys who have trouble with friendship. Guys relate on a very superficial level. They 'hang' but never completely interact. This is not a put down, just a statement of the nature of guys. They don't know the names of their buddy's kids. They may not know his last name or even his given name (he's just Skeeter, or Boo Boo). Typically, a guy's only confident is his woman.
I love my sistahs. I may dislike or have a dispute with one, but that's strictly personal. It's not right to extrapolate across a group like that.
