Thanksgiving!

I'm wondering if my relatives will show up extremely late this year!
I have dinner ready at about 1PM..and ask everyone to try to be here before 2:30PM
Does that sound unreasonable?
Pisses me off when they come through the door at 5-7PM and expect everything to be warm...servred and perfect...
Last year I put everything away at 4PM and just served the ingrates dessert with cofffee....I didn't think that was rude....but then they refused to come for Xmas!
we'lll se what happens this year......
If they show up extremely late again...I'm putting a note on the door and taking off to the movies with my daughter!
Any thoughts?

Good grief .. how ungrateful, they are!!!!.. I suggest skip a year.... Maybe they will appreciate you .. otherwise Movies and do your own thing sounds right to me...

We like to be on time too. I think an hour late is the most I can accept cheerfully. If I got to your house at 4- I'd be happy to even get dessert and coffee!

We have people who have coming for the 3 big holidays for 40 years, never once have they been on time, we don't even wait for them anymore and make no excuses for there being no food left.
We have 3 bachelors who come and as soon as we finish dinner we have them divide the left overs up to take home. then we have dessert, so if they get there in time they may get dessert. We used to get so upset waiting and waiting for them, now we have stress free dinners becaude we don't wait and worry.

in another story, my brother and his wife were always leten o matter what time you'd tell them. We even tried telling them earlier, so they might make it on time, never worked. I used to always tell him he would be late for his own funeral, but I was wrong, he was the first one there.

Be specific with the time. If they snooze, they lose.
In the past, my youngest brother and his family didn't bother to show up for our Christmas get together, and when we finally called him we got some lame excuse ... yet he couldn't bother to call. He also lost a good job that way. And consequently lost his house. We can't control other people, they will do as they please.

I've figured out one thing through all this...we have to let go...if someone shows up late...it's their loss or maybe their gain...we make an offer they choose not to partake or maybe TRY to cut their visit short by not being there when everyone else is...their decision...

That is very rude of your relatives. I can see perhaps 15 minutes late but geeeez 4 hours late! That is just inexcusable. You could always tell them that Thanksgiving dinner will be at 1 sharp and that at 3 you have plans to go to the movies. I do like your idea.
