Thanksgiving is upon us!

What will you do?
Where are you going?
Or....are you going to stay home ..like me and invite everyone over for a great home cooked meal???
This Texas weather is great..isn't it??

Wow, 10 days off and a trip to the coast sounds fun for Thanksgiving!

Otter, are you the cook in your family? Will you be preparing the turkey and all the trimmings or will there be help from other family members?

I will be staying home and cooking. I opted to work Christmas so I can earn double time and a half. Plus most of my customers are going home.

Ignore it and it will go away. (Thanksgiving that is) --Ride down to the coast and sit on the beach for a couple days. Hopefully it will be warm enough.

ajijichic,

NOPE. not even for "family" - the EIGHTEEN (as of right now!) people coming for turkey dinner are friends & friends of friends.
(i'm MAROONED in the DC area this time, as i have to be at a meeting in DC on Friday for our tribal government.)

everyone is supposed to "bring something" to the feed.

ajijicchic,

fwiw, i actually fed 16 hungry people (of the 20 who said that they were coming). = there was so little food left at kick-off for the Dallas Cowboys game that one "eater" took all the leftovers (less one mincemeat pie, that "my sister of the heart" squirreled away) home in a small paper sack - i'd bet there wasn't more than 2 cups of boned-out turkey left & about 3 pint containers of "sides".

hoping your Thanks GIVING Day was GRAND.

btw, how about THE HORNS? = 49 to 39 over the Aggies.
(an all-time record for points & total yards of offense.)

My Thanksgiving was good too -- we had a 20 lb turkey, a large ham, and a staggering amount of sides and what little was left was dived up amongst the leftover-takers. Fun was had by all and my daughter and grandson graced us with Christmas music after dinner -- viola and violin. This is the first year my grandson has really been able to read music fluently and play harmony with ease (since Suzuki training starts out with playing by ear.) I caught myself reflecting that all those years of lessons were probably worth it, since my daughter is now managing to pass it down to future generations :-)

Mincemeat pie brings back memories, Otter. I haven't had any of that since my mom used to bake them years ago. This year we had the traditional pumpkin pie plus my pumpkin dump cake, and also pecan and berry pies. It's a good thing we only do this twice a year or we'd all LOOK like pumpkins.

ajijicchic,

"---or we'd all LOOK like pumpkins" ======> how very true - rotflmRao!

CONGRADS on your grandson & his music = NEAT!
(i "took" music lessons for 8 years & found that, while i had some "mechanical ability", i had NO talent.)

otoh, i have to brag a little on my 18YO niece - she is on a full scholarship for her BFA in Dance at "The 40 Acres". = someone in the family actually HAS talent!
(& my daughter is the Deputy Director of Information management at UT, too, so she has "company" in Austin.)
