Application Disappeared From SideBar

Somehow the Word icon disappeared from the Sidebar. When I checked the apps folder, it's not there although when I try to pull up a Word document, it opens up. How do I find the Word icon and reinstall it on the dock, the sidebar?

It's perturbing.

I think you are more interested in the Sidebar than the Dock. Both are really easy.

First, find Word using any of the above methods. My favorite, because it is easiest, is to use the Find command in the Finder under the File menu (or command F).

In the window that opens, type Word and select "File Name" Word will show up probably as a couple of different types of files (I have Application and Alias). Click once on Word the Application. At the bottom of the window you will now see where the file is. Mine says Woodstock (my hard drive) -> Applications -> Microsoft Office 2008 -> Microsoft Word.

Double click the folder that Microsoft Word lives in (my case that is Microsoft Office 2008). The folder will open and you will see the Word icon big as day. Drag the icon into the Sidebar and it will stay there. To remove it from the Sidebar (which you probably accidentally did) just drag the icon out of the Sidebar and it will disappear in a "poof!". This drag in and drag out approach works exactly the same way for the Dock,

Ya gotta keep the kids happy - god luck

Fred,

because I absolutely hate doing something on a computer that I might regret later, does the dragging of something like that WORD icon from your Folder to the sidebar in Finder mean that the icon is no longer in the Folder it was dragged from?

Or does it just create an alias in the sidebar?
