Supplies:
1. any brand of fusible webbing or bonding. Steam-A-Seam is a popular one. HeatnBond is another. You can get it in Wal-Mart, and any sewing store.
2. Thanksgiving print fabric. There is so much to choose from! Maybe half a yard? Depends on how much of this you want to do.
3. For easy potholders, buy some plain ones at the dollar store.
The technique.
1. Cut out the motif you want, like a pumpkin, or Pilgrim, or turkey, leaving extra fabric all around the design. We will cut that away later.
2. Open your fusible webbing sheets. They look like 2 pieces of paper. The bonding stuff is in between the paper.
3. Cut out a piece a bit bigger than your design which you have cut out.
4. Lay your design fabic WRONG SIDE UP on your ironing board.
5. Peel off the paper from one side of your bonding stuff. Lay the bonding side (not the paper side) on the WRONG SIDE of your fabric. Press with your hot iron for about 10-15 seconds. Don't move the iron like you are ironing, just smoosh it down on the sandwich.
6. After it cools a little bit, cut around the design on the edge of the design. Then peel off the remaining paper side.
7. Get your apron, or placemat, or potholder, and place the WEBBING SIDE down on the item wherever you want to see it. Now the fabric should be RIGHT SIDE UP, webbing will be between your design and the background fabric.
8. Press again, 10-15 minutes. TA-DA! Instant applique!
9. If you have a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine, zig-zag with a tight stitch all around the edge of your bonded design. This will keep the edges from lifting when you wash it.
And here are some ideas of things to make:
Use a permanent marker for the words, or fabric paint:

Make your own bib or buy them. Would be nice for a little gift for all your tiny guests for Thanksgiving dinner. You can also add names with fabric paint or permanent marker:

For this one, you don't need fabric with designs. Just different colored scraps from your scrap pile.

And here is a cornucopia stencil. Print it out and enlarge it. Then use your scrap pile to appliqué it on something. Maybe a table runner?
