Pelosi delivers health care turkey

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Dem., Calif.) last week unveiled the House Democrats’ vaunted health care bill, and its brobdingnagian excesses promise to shatter legislative records. At more than 1,990 pages and about 400,000 words, H.R. 3962—The Affordable Health Care for America Act—is the most expensive piece of litigation since the New Deal. Democrats say it has an estimated 10-year cost of $894 billion, but the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office places the cost at $1.05 trillion.

In any event, the 19-pound bill will cost the current generation of taxpayers more than one-half billion dollars per page. Editorially, the Wall Street Journal calls H.R. 3962 “the worst bill ever:” “We believe it is no stretch to say that Mrs. Pelosi's handiwork ranks with the Smoot-Hawley tariff and FDR's National Industrial Recovery Act as among the worst bills Congress has ever seriously contemplated."

Just in time for Thanksgiving and stuffed with taxpayers money. You can read some interesting "tidbits" in the bill here, including links to a detailed summary of health care bill (11 pp. PDF), Section by section summary of health care bill (61 pp. PDF), Official index and outline of H.R. 3962 and a copy: H.R. 3962, The Affordable Health Care for America Act (1,990 Pp. .PDF). This is what you wanted GothamGal, read away.

though I might offer a summary of the plan rathere then just expressn opinion
from the democratic health plan
1, people on Medicare no changer in benefits like wise for people covered through their employer.
2. For employer who do not offer health care benefit (except for the “smallest could not find a definition.
Id is play or pay.
3. For people who want to buy private insurance there will be a national “insurance exchange” where one can compare benefits and costs (this is something I have been saying needed to be done one ought to be able to buy health insurance as one buys car insurance.)
4. The mandates
Everyone will be required to have health insurance except those that can demonstrate they can pay out of pocket. Over 65musy have Medicare, If under poverty line the state Medicaid or what ever the state calls it?
5. The government will not get involved on the health care delivery system. So hospitals in & outpatient can stay the same. One issue see is the in the area where cities like Boston, Portland Oregon I believe – I need to check this - , have duplicate services (as in having 2 cardiology centers just three blocks from each other, or too many beds for the size of the catchment area.
6. No subsidies for insurance companies (with all the potential new customers there ought to be none needed. Again the first in the market will make a hilling in profits. I have no problem at all with that (remember 40 million new customers are expected.
I will be posting the republican one as well

The turkey is still being basted, stuffing taken out, other stuffing replaced. We haven't seen the finished bill yet.

GG, they HAVE to do something to keep us confused! LOL.

I'm not quite sure that there will be NO change if Medicare. You can't cut 500 billion and not make some changes, but we shall see once the turkey is cooked and put on the table.

From what I understand some Medicare recipients, not all, will have to pay higher premiums and/or copays, but coverage will be unchanged. We'll see what the end result is. There is also a separate bill being drafted to reverse the cut in payments to doctors and hospitals.

MS and GG, some of the numbers are still fluctuating for sure, but (for GG) when we look at a bill, it must be discussed and examined BEFORE being passed by the Congress otherwise why look at it at all?

Thus far, I have YET to see ANY of the major bills address resources, specifically total amounts of medical personnel or even primary care physicians.....the Census tells me (I have posted the link previously) that people using Medicare will increase over the next decade by 36%.....and Medicare will be cut (exact amount is still somewhat undetermined), for certain a minimum of $219 Billion and up to $500 Billion over ten years.....

The numbers ALONE tell me - someone experienced in process development and improvement - that the promises that there will be no adverse impact (per Obama in front of Congress) is simply put, a bald faced outright lie.....this plan - given the numbers, CANNOT work - as promised.....it is a physical impossibility.....

I have on a braoder note put the challenge to many friends I have in the quality and process arenas and the conclusion is the same.....radically higher costs (therefore taxes too) or draconian cuts and delays.....

And let's not forget the costs to single peopl and families for the medical insurance they will be required to buy.....

There are better plans out there.....oh, but then pelosi and reid would have to table their agenda and look at logical, intelligent, approaches.....

Dang, we can't have that.....
