The Lucky Ones
Fred Cheaver (Tim Robbins), Colee Dunn (Rachel McAdams), & T.K. Poole (Michael Peña), three soldiers recently released from a field hospital, come back to the USA for a 30 day leave. Because of a delay in their plane schedules once in New York they take a road trip together across the USA.
Get the plot? Three unlikely strangers in a car travel across the USA to meet the changed country that they left behind. The story did move through a few surprises, but I felt that these surprises were just manipulative.
My expectations for this movie were very low after the first few minutes. (Didn't I see this movie before?) However, despite the contrived plot set ups, the three actors each gave an outstanding performance. By the end of the movie, I fell in love with the characters. And the contrived plot? It was like a game of Trivial Pursuits for Movies. (In what movie did I see that scene?)
