Official Diagnosis

Hi everyone: I got my official Fibromyalgia Diagnosis today from my Rheumatologist. She had thoroughly examined me the first time I saw her. She had blood tests done. She went over those with me today. I am low on Vitamin D and Calcium. She wants me to take 1000 mg a day of each with vitamins. She said I am slightly anemic as well.

She wants me to increase my Lyrica from 100 mg 3x a day to 150 mg 3 times a day. I don't remember what else right now. Lol.

I'm 57 years old and a male. So I'm in a minority I suppose among those with Fibro. At least I've got the diagnosis and I can go on now from this.

I see my primary care doctor Thursday. I'll see what she says. I know I'm also supposed to increase my thyroid med dosage some as the blood tests said my thyroid function is a bit low. So, besides my type 2 diabetes, fibro..I'm basically ok.

I better quit now. I'm going to get back on later. Its been a busy day.

I won't say "welcome" because this is a group that we all wish, deep down, that we didn't have to be a part of. At least you know that we're all here for you. I do agree that it feels better mentally and emotionally to have that official diagnosis. Once the beast has a name, you can go from there in learning how to deal with it.

You may be in a minority, but we know that fibro can hit all age groups of both sexes of all walks of life and ethnicities, and the stereotype of middle-class middle-aged women being the only ones who have to bear this illness is a myth.

Stay tuned into this group. You can learn a lot, and we're all here to support each other!

Ken so happy that you finally got your diagnoises, as it is took me along time, to figure what the dickens was wrong with me. Sorry that you have it!!Although you pretty well knew... what the answer would be. Take care and let us know how the increase in meds has helped or not! We care about you!

Good that you have an official diagnosis. Sorry you have to have Fibro, but it's better to know what you have to work with. Sounds like your Rheumatologist is a good one. Take care ((( Ken ))).

Ken, as bad as it may seem at least you know what is wrong and you are being treated. There are so many things you can do to help yourself - good diet, exercise, vitamins. The friends on this site will help with their support and encouragement. A good doctor is essential. I can remember how difficult it was before I received my diagnosis. There were days I thought I was losing my mind. My body ached so badly and if someone touched me, I would cringe in pain. No one understood. Learning that my symptoms were real and had a name was a medicine in itself. Your on the upside now! Take care!

Ken, I'm sorry that you have had to join this not-so-exclusive club. We have all had to go through the months or years of trying to find out what it is that we were suffering with; it is almost a relief to put a name on it. Then to find there is no cure and no definitive treatment is a real letdown, but we deal with it and go about trying to find what works for each of us. Keep us posted on how things go with your medications.
