good news from ford

I read today that Ford had a billion dollar quarter. I wonder which cars drove that?. (pardon the pun. Now here comes the old news Ford has an opportunity to gain market share. They sought a number of cost saving to streamline the number of models and to introduce improved mileage cars again to better position itself. As usual the union rejected the concessions saying that Ford made profit ( And they say companies think short term?) G.M. & Chrysler union has already accepted the contract with the concessions. The past pattern was that the three companies are all under the same contract. But things have changed since G.M. & Chrysler came so close and still might fall into bankruptcy. One of the smartest moves the car maker did was to bring in Allan Mullaly form Boeing. I am still waiting to see how fiat fits into this.

The Focus and Escape models fueled that sales boom..with the help from "cash for clunkers"

The other good news about Ford was a 3% sales gain in October when Edmunds had projected a 3% sales loss. I also see that Ford is looking to raise 3 billion in common stock sales. I can only assume that it is in response to the UAW's rejection of the contract.

UAW should be glad to have jobs at this point.

there is usually a review of the contract on can serch on lexus nexus. i am wdering what points of the contravt the union rejected, or if it ws based on the one quarter profits. Last contract included an increase of paymnts for heath insurance, did away with the "job bank" paying workers three quarer of their wages when not working, and I believe a loosening of the rules regarding cross training. (I remember seeing this and beieving that it was about time.) I have rented the ficus nice lttle csr. never heard of the escape but willcheck it out.
Another factor may be the trouble at Toyota, the recall and first time in its history a nnon profitable quarter. what is interesting if it was the focus that drove sales the big three use to say that their small cars lost money for them.

I'm going to do my part and buy a Cadillac. I will either get a car from a growing automobile manufacturer, or I'll have myself a collector's item!

I love the new Ford Taurus SHO -- hot car! Waaaaay tooooo expensive for a Ford, in my opinion.

Then again, GM wants to charge nearly $60,000 for a new Cadillac CTS with all the bells and whistles -- I'm going to get a used one!

I would never buy a car from GM or Chrysler as long as they're run by the goverment. And I live in metro Detroit.

That's like saying that you want them to fail so much that you will do your fair share to make sure they fail. Defeatist attitude, if you ask me. By GM and help them rebuild and get out from under the gov't.

Nope. I won't. They'll never get out from under the goverment. The government will always move the finish line, every time they get close. You really think they're going to let go of a company once they've got their tentacles in them?

Yes I do. Only time will tell, until then I'd have to say that you and I will differ on this one issue.

Chrysler already got out from under the govt. once, why not twice? Why not dissavow all the banks too? They are still American companies aren't they? Ah heck, let's just buy Chinese.

I'm going to WalMart.
