What the Kindle didn't come with a UBS cable??? My Sony Reader did. If you can get internet you can download books on the SOny. Got 15 books on it now. What a bummer not to be able to use it right away.
Mine came with a cable. I'd write/call about that. Oh! Your charger breaks down into cable and electrical plug. Did you look closely? Good luck.
I should have read the instuctions!..Can let Trish know, it won't go easy for me, I've already ordered the cable..... I'll try to cancel or return.
Slopok;
Which Kindle did you purchase? I am going to get one if and when I get my old geezers 200$ from Uncle Sam. Are the improvements on the recent one worth the extra money?
.I got the DX, the biggie, which means no Christmas or birthday for a while. I can't compare because this is my first and only one. I'm reading the instructions this morning and I'm satisfied with it so far.. I like the ability to change text size and the big screen . I drew out a diagonal 6 in block and a 9.7 in. diagonal block for comparison and decided that the 6 in. was too small but I’m not so sure that it is worth the extra money. I wish I could have examined both physically before buying. Gonna order a book later this morning when I read more about ordering online..One must read the directions so one doesn't error.
If you do order in error, Amazon is good about instant refunds. Also, try the freebie samples of books you aren't sure about wanting. I think the smaller size is ust right for slipping into my handbag or backpack for instant entertainment in waiting lines/rooms or on rainy days on the trail.
This is all really informative, good to have somebody else doing the "research" on these things. And I couldn't help but rotflmao about the original snafu, slopok, guess that's the wife in me. :x
I had an ephiphany in the public library a few days ago.
I read book reviews and then look for the books in the public library or bookstore (mostly paperbacks) later. When I look at the books, I read the covers and blurbs to see if I really want to read them.
How can you do this on a Kindle or other device? Once you download a book, you've bought it and cannot return it, right?
If this is true, it presents a problem for a reader like me.
I believe Sony is going to start offering first chapters free if you want to decide to buy and Kindle does too. Haven't bought any books yet because there are so many free ones that i downloaded that i want to read. You do get a little blurb on what the books are about while scanning thru them. I see you bought the top of the line Kindle $$$, Slopok. The Sony reader i have is pocket size about 6" and since you can make the print bigger, it works fine for me. Anyone wanting to get a reader please go look at Mobile Read Forum. Look it up on the internet. They have photos of them, critiques of both the Kindle and SOny and other readers. Ask yourself whether you just need a device to read on the run or to store thousands of books, do you need e-mail and wireless too? Do you want to be able to subscribe to newspapers? How much do you want to spend?
