TIME MACHINE EDITOR

Do you use Time Machine for your backups? Do you want other than the "every hour" backup, and a lot more flexibility on when TMcahine actually runs...

I use Time Machine Editor, and I run backups every 12 hours. That's all I need.

You're very welcome, pond.

Another nice thing about this little app is that you don't have to wait every hour for the destination disk to spin up to speed so that TMachine can plop its changes on it. No "whirring" sound every hour on the hour.

I tried it last night, Pete. Seems better than having Time Machine on the hour, which was a pain in the neck. The editor doesn't show the beach ball although I still see some hesitation when I want to export photos to desktop from iPhoto.

Pureheart,

The TMEditor won't really "improve" your system's performance, but what it will do is reduce the demand on it from "once every hour" to something less than "once every hour".

And that can only be goodness!

Pete,

I've disconnected the external hard drive; that was driving me crazy all on its own, I was discovering. I'm really using it for photos only so can manually update as needed.

I don't think my time machine does hourly back ups....just once in the morning. I don't hear it operating either. I'll have to check that out.

Time Machine, by default, runs hourly, and unless you have something like Time Machine Editor installed to control it, it will attempt to run hourly forever. You may not hear it because you may not have made any file changes in a given hour, and TM just starts, then stops, because there's nothing to backup.
