SEPTA Strike

"SEPTA was offering an 11.5 percent wage increase over five years, with a $1,250 signing bonus in the first year, and increases in workers' pensions, SEPTA spokesman Richard Maloney said."

At at time when many people are getting zero raises or taking cuts in pay or losing their jobs completely, there is little sympathy for these striking workers. In addition, there was absolutely no warning the strike would happen. They decided at 3 this morning. People woke up to the news with no time to make alternate arrangements.

I think the union is being extremely selfish and unreasonable given the current economy.

Public transportation workers should not be allowed to hold an entire community hostage for higher wages -- they should be fired. That wouldn't help matters, but they must not be allowed to do this.
