I totally agree with harbormaster55. I too am trying to get rid of things. I gave my children all their memobrallia, clothes and any thing reusable to Thrift Shops. Keeping furniture and kitchen utensils down to what is only necessary. There so many things we can do without. I always lookind to reduce and it makes so much easier to clean.
I retired a few months after turning 63. I disposed of a lot of things, but I still have so much. Wish I could be objective about it. LOL
GG, me too. I've gotten rid of a lot of 'stuff' but keep hanging on to some things I'm just sure I'll "need" again. Yeh, right.

A good question it is! I believe that the man is live until he has clearness of purpose to do what is interesting for him. This means the Full Life. Find what is interesting for you, find a hobby and it will keep you young.
I downsized too, when forced by health issues to retire about five yrs ago. Now here I am all these yrs later, I find I have accumulated as much as I got rid of five yrs ago...maybe even more.
I have been thinking about getting rid of some of it again. GROAN!
I'm a pack rat, love yd sales. I need to quite 'getting' and keep things simple. I do like not have to clean around, take care of, etc.
I just can't seem to stop this maddness!! Seems like it's what retirement it all about! gather it and get rid of it yr after yr!
I down sized two years ago when I bought and moved into another house..but still have to much and would love to down size again.....still hanging on to some things I really don't need....my thinking now is only keeping the bear necessities,so I will have more time for hobbies, volunteering and simple things that make me happy..
After my husband's Dad diedhis siblings and he found out how much their dad was a pack rat and were surprised at the junk he kept. WELL, we are just about the same, especially the hubby, for all of the rooms, closets, and storeroom and barn are full!. I just feel sorry for our two sons, but maybe they can sell some and make a profit. Donna

Many people want to keep things simple, but it is so much easier said than done, like many things. I clean out periodically and give away items that I am sure I won't need or want. I like gadgets (ones I deem useful, anyway) so have to be careful that I don't just fill up the house with useless junk. I am a neat freak so as long as items are not out cluttering up the place I can live with them. When I start to feel edgy about the stuff around me, I know it is time to start to "declutter" again. As to the question about "Full Life", I agree that finding the things and activities that bring us happiness and concentrating on them is the best way to go about achieving it. Many of you said this is different ways.
I am cleaning out, I don't buy books anymore (I love books), I go to the senior library and get all I want to read.... Donating a lot of clothes as I have too many....I don't stop at garage sales anymore, that was a weakness for me, buying someone else's clutterings...
