Old fashion Remedies (Old wives tales)

I got this via email and sounds really interesting to me. I will let you know that my elderly neighbor told me to toast pieces of onions on the stove and place them on a ingrown nail with pus as hot as I could stand it several times) and wrap it with gauze and next morning it was healed. It really worked. Just be careful with individual use each of us have different physical conditions. In other words use common sense.

Sounds like an old wives tale, but probably worth a try.
Very interesting……….
In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor
that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the
flu.
Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.

The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone
was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing
that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled
onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms
back then). The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have
one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him
one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It
obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ. She said that
several years ago many of her employees were coming down with the flu
and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several
bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her
staff got sick. It must work.. (And no, she is not in the onion
business.)
The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them in bowls
around your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your
office or under your desk or even on top somewhere. Try it and see
what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu.

If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick, all the
better. If you do get the flu, it just might be a mild case..

Whatever, what have you to lose? Just a few bucks on
onions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in
Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She
replied with this most interesting experience about onions:

Weldon, thanks for the reminder. I don't know about the farmers
story...but, I do know that I contacted pneumonia and needless to say
I was very ill...I came across an article that said to cut both ends
off an onion put one end on a fork and then place the forked end into
an empty jar...placing the jar next to the sick patient at night. It
said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs...sure
enough it happened just like that...the onion was a mess and I began
to feel better.

Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic
placed around the room saved many from the black plague years ago.
They have powerful antibacterial, antiseptic properties.

Don't be sorry. Long posts no longer matter with the way eons now displays posts on the group page. Long or short, it only displays a few lines. The reason people wanted you to keep it short in the past was that long posts ate up so much real estate on the group home page, That is no longer true.

Thank you so much for this information. My grandmother was an avid believer in onions as a medicinal treatment for just about everything. She had 8 natural childbirths at home using a mid-wife and was never in a hospital until she was well into her 80's. She died suddenly in her kitchen at age 89. With flu season upon us I certainly am going to try putting onions in my home.

I also heard on our local news about black elderberry syrup used instead of Tamiflu--apparently the active ingredient in Tamiflu is the same in the extract of black elderberry.

There is a recent study that has shown onions in fact do kill or at least shorten colds and flu. Also, garlic has natural antibiotic properties, so much so it was used during wartime on open wounds to stave off infections and kill active ones.

Something very interesting I heard on the news tonight. It seems that cumin, the spice we use, has been shown to kill cancer cells. Conclusively.

I used to live in a small town in NC and there was this older guy there who swore that if you took a tablespoon of horseradish, it would clear a cold out of your head, throat and chest. Apparently this was his "cure all" and he never went to a Doctor. He died of pneumonia!

This all underlines the value of cooking with lots of herbs and spices and using lots of condiments with your food, in order to stay healthy. It's also yummy. It helps to grow as many as you can yourself, if you're at all into gardening.

I recently heard that an incense made of a combination of rosemary and juniper banishes infectious agents from your house. Since I have rosemary in the back yard and juniper in the front, I'm thinking of trying it. It should really smell good.

I used to make elderberry jelly when I lived in Ohio. Also made sweet elderberry wine a couple of times. The elderberries grew along ditchbanks. We would keep track of where they were growing, so we could pick them when they were ripe. Some people even planted them around their barns, as the bushes repel flies.

I'm looking at the current proposals on health care, and the economic issues, and wondering if we are going to get back to olden times where we need to know lots about natural remedies. I'd like to see collections of info on proven home remedies.

Yes, I think so too Sunnyside7 it is worth sharing some of our old generations remedies.
Who knows we may have to use them more often. I use a lot of garlic and onions with my cooking. I have read that they have many benefits for our health.
