I believe it disgaceful to apply permanent body art to a child. I for one do not like any of the piercings or tatoos.

I agree with Hieagle - it's not right to apply tatoos to a child and I don't have any tattoos. As far as I know, neither of my grown daughters have tatoos - that I can see .... LOL...

At age 40,my younger son,had a tattoo applied to his entire back. It took two weekends. Go figure. Doesn't matter to me, it's his back. It looks fine.
I've never seen a tattoo on a small child . :-(

I have two tatoos. A flower and a butterfly. I like them both and have no regrets. I was 65 when I got the first one and 68 when I got the second. Perhaps I don't want to grow up? Most people I meet my age do not like tatoos. I for one never did, so ask me why I got them? I guess it's a Sr. trend right now and who are we hurting? We will have something to talk and laugh about when we get to that Nursing Home that I don't want to think about. LOL I don't like body piercing at all. I feel it looks stupid to have something through your nose or other body parts. But then, how do we account for pierced ears? Our society seems to accept that. I believe in live and let live. We all have our personal opinions and that's OK. That's what makes us all unique. However, I don't believe it's right for any parent to do this to a child who is not yet old enough to make their own decisions. For one thing, there is always risks when something of this nature is done. I feel it's a form of child abuse because I'm pretty sure it's scary for a young child to submit to. But unfortunately unless it's declared illegal there is not much that can be done. I'm surprised a tatoo artist would do it on a child. I would think there could be a liability issue. But I do like my tatoos. I was even thinking of getting another one. "A dragonfly". Believe it or not it can become addictive so I'm really trying not to over do it. Because actually I do not like too many on anyone. Sometimes more can be ugly.
Basically, I believe it's another way to express one's personality. And that's my opinion folks. It's was interesting to read yours.
Have a nice day.
The five thousand year old ice man found frozen in the Swiss Alps, had tattoos. So this isn't a modern day occurrence. Anyone old enough to vote, should have the right to do whatever they wish when it comes to tattoos. My objection is in this being done to a child and I've good reason for this.
I once knew a lady who was a custodian at one of my schools. Well educated and very articulate, she could never rise above the rank of custodian because over each of her breasts were tattoos, one said sweet, the other sour. On her hands, one said love, the other hate.
She told me this was the result of a wild college party one lost weekend and she was now paying the price for her indiscretion.
All things in life come at a cost and no child should ever bear the cost of someone else's folly.
T 'head... you are so right! Although a parent may have the legal right to make that decision for a minor child, they are remiss in considering what lies ahead for that child as an adult, for example.
My wife and I both detest tatoos and piercings, would never have considered one even in our wildest of days. However, all three of our children do have tatoos. We just ignore them, even when they try and show their latest. All I can think of is all the elderly old ladies and men walking around with tatoos of roses, hearts, "mother", chains, barbed wire, birds, cats and dogs!
I guess it takes all kinds of people to make a world. I am almost 58 and had a small hummingbird tattooed on my right forearm, just above the wrist this past summer. I haven't regretted it. I am also going to get a small flower right near it. I have had many comments on it, pros & cons. I don't mind the pros but for someone to ask me about it and then say they hate them is a bit rude in my opinion. On the cruise, I saw many, many pretty ones and lots of ugly ones. I kept my mouth shut. If you can't say something nice, why say anything at all, in my opinion. Many seniors are getting them now....maybe because we CAN and don't need public approval or even family approval. I only asked my own husband's opinion.
As for kids, I think that is totally uncalled for. Let them decide after age 18 if they want one.
It doesn't seem fair to subject a child to the discomfort or the marking. Then again, many have their kid's ears pierced but that is not as permanent.
Many things are unsightly, big bellies, stretch marks, scars, veins etc. I guess change the things you can and mind your business about the rest. Know when you are overstepping someone else's rights also.

BTW, both my sons have tattoos. One has a lot of them...he works in a factory. My other son is a lawyer and his are covered by clothing. Both of their wives have them also. The son who works in a factory is married to a girl with 3 tattoos and my other son's wife has a few but they are not visible unless she is wearing sleeveless or a backless top.
My Father had some. No one else in my generation has any..........guess I am the rebel of the family.
