Its only costing me $400.. for a Head job

Well last night I successfully removed the air conditioner and alternator and drained the radiator and disconnected all the hoses a long with about a thousand other little things that needed to be disconnected...lets hope I remember where it all goes......this after noon I hope to remove the heads and take them to a buddy of mine who builds racing motors...he has the equipment to " shave the heads or if you prefer head job" which makes them perfectly flat again for the new gasket...he tells me he can do it for about $115.00 per head...I consider that a deal.....over all if nothing else is wrong with the motor I should get out for right around $400.00 which includes gasket kit ,,new oil (twice, some water did get into oil so I have to run a engine flush) and other fluids such as anti-freeze...I might go ahead and replace the radiator hoes while I have the old one off.....I guess in some places that would be a lot of money to pay for a " head job" but I think its a good deal....does anybody else know what a " head job " cost in their area..I would love to know

400 for a head job is pretty cheap .. i got my johnson waxed once and i thought the price was really good but in the end it cost me a house so .... 400 in comparison is a great deal ..

Easy - glad you are getting your head taken care of. CG it is always nice to hear your take on these things. LOL.
I agree AD. It is always entertaining to hear what is going on in Easy's and CG's worlds.

Easy, if the work is good, you're getting a great price. But maybe the mechanic will ask for a tip or something while you're still in a euphoric state. Try not to simply hand over your wallet, K?

$400 is a very good price in my area Easy...I just did the same thing to my son's S-10 which is only a 4 cylinder (one head) and it only cost him the price of the head gasket and valve cover gasket. We pulled the head and put a straight edge on it and there was no warpage so all was well...be sure they check that BTW. I priced it at a garage and the quote was $900 so I bought the $20 Hanes manual and about 6 hours later...viola, runs like a clock again...good luck to you, I hope it all works out.
