Continuing evolution of the human species

I have read recently that evolution of our species is slowing down...and other articles that we are still evolving.

I read somewhere else that some in just the coastal United States have evolved more than those in more rural areas of the heartland.

What is your experience or what is your theory?

I've been 'out' searching for info on this subject. I've found one source that has several connections to other sites. I believe the human race will continue to evolve. However I contemplate how all of human kind will evolve differently - like those in different locations - like weather, way of life, wealth vs poor, etc. After all, homosapiens evolved from Neaderthals ( I think, or were they from a 'different' line?)

Evolution is the change in population allele frequencies. This happens because:

1) mutation produces new alleles

2) The environment changes

3) Natural selection operates on allele frequencies due to differential allele fitness for the changing environment.

Simply having an increase in the number of alleles due to human culture negating the effects of natural selection does not result in evolution. The concept of evolution requires allele frequency changes due to differences in allele fitness.

As for Neanderthals, this article has a nice list of links at the bottom:
